BIO

Cori Redstone is a fine artist, author and human rights organizer based in Los Angeles, California.

She makes work about pathological optimism, the sublime and redemption through rebellion by questioning the disparities between domestic, rhetorical and public personas.

Born in the American southwest into a family of religious fundaments and then experiencing bureaucratic institutionalization as afoster child; Redstone’s life experiences were shaped by her rebellion against an oppressive and super imposed identity and her identification with others very different from herself. The ways in which social conditioning shapes the notions of identity and community and creates structures that disempower the collective comprise her social practice as an activist and inform her material works.

Cori’s work has been shown across the United States including the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art and Aspen Art Museum. Most recently she was featured as Saatchi Online’s Artist of the Day and seen in the November/ December 2016 edition of LUXE magazine.

Redstone’s work is heavily influenced by her passion for the landscapes of her childhood in the American Southwest and Rocky Mountains and her work as a human rights organizer. She has garnered critical attention for her intersectional environmental work and social practice.  In 2012 she was awarded a 350.org Blue Mountain Artist Residency.

Cori’s artworks, photographs and writing have been published in numerous publications and she most recently authored a chapter of a college sociology textbook titled “Emergent Possibilities for Global Sustainability, Intersections of race, class and gender”  Rutledge, July 2016. Her work is in a number of private and public collections across the United States

She entered the University of Utah to study film and animation but switched to art when the animation program was discontinued. Redstone began exhibiting prior to attending college andgraduated with a BFA in 2011. She went on to receive her MFA from The California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in 2015.
